This presentation is part of Elaine Newton's Critic's Choice series. --> Kin by Tayari Jones Raised side by side in rural Louisiana, two motherless girls enter adulthood on dramatically different paths. Vernice leaves home for Spelman College and a world of new possibilities, while Annie sets out in search of the mother whose absence has defined her childhood. From Tayari Jones, author of the Women's Prize-winning An American Marriage , Kin follows their years of separation and reunion as friendship, chosen family and long-held loyalties contend with racial injustice and the changing expectations facing Black women in the American South. Please note: The Thursday lecture will be held in Daniels Pavilion. The Saturday lecture will be held in Hayes Hall.
