Event Joshua Bell: The Elements Naples Philharmonic Masterworks Naples Philharmonic Alexander Shelley , artistic and music director Joshua Bell , violin Wynton Marsalis — Herald, Holler and Hallelujah! Kevin Puts, Edgar Meyer, Jennifer Higdon, Jake Heggie, and Jessie Montgomery — The Elements for Violin and Orchestra Stravinsky — The Rite of Spring Violin virtuoso Joshua Bell joins Artistic and Music Director Alexander Shelley and the Naples Philharmonic for a program that bridges innovation and tradition. Bell performs The Elements , a five-movement work for violin and orchestra featuring stunning video projections of the natural world. Conceived as a contemporary response to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons , each movement is written by a different acclaimed composer: Kevin Puts (Earth), Edgar Meyer (Water), Jake Heggie (Fire), Jennifer Higdon (Air) and Jessie Montgomery (Space). The program also features Wynton Marsalis' Herald, Holler and Hallelujah , a spirited 2021 composition that nods to both Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man (also heard in the season's first and sixth Masterworks programs) and Duke Ellington's Black, Brown and Beige. The program draws to a close with Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring , a seismic work that revolutionized music in the 20th century. Its 1913 premiere famously sparked a riot in Paris, and it remains one of the most powerful and provocative pieces ever written.
