Daas Gallery is featuring Raymond Hernandez this Month.
The Passion of Raymond Hernández at daas
Opening Reception in conjunction with February’s Art Walk
February brings the fascinating and visionary work of artist Raymond Hernández to downtown Fort Myers. With an opening reception scheduled for the first Friday of February, Hernández presents his collection entitled Passionat daas Gallery. The event starts at 6:00PM.
A graduate from the Art Institute of Dallas, Texas in 1984, Hernández has created a vast array of provocative and mystical pieces. His signature installations of religious artifacts and images are simply captivating.
“My life has always revolved around different aspects of the art world. I approach photography, painting, illustration, design, landscaping, or maybe just cooking a meal, the same way. I strive to find beauty in all there is. My inspiration comes from art, nature, architecture, fashion, music, culture, and most of all my travels. Experiences from major cities to the deep jungles of the Amazon bring fuel to my fire. My art emerges from this accumulation of concepts, ideas and emotions.” – explains the artist.
Hernández has participated in a multitude of exhibitions around the United States. He is not only an artist, but an arts patron, curator and critic. He has written art columns for local and national magazines and has organized exhibitions and artistic projects locally and around the state.
The exhibition will be on display until February 25, 2011. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. More information is available at www.daasgallery.com.

Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center “In Making History”
“In Making History” Opening
at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center
Jim my good friend over at the Art Center does not want you to miss this exhibit starting on Friday. The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center and curator Aida Bukovica present “In Making History,” an exhibit of inspirational portraits/representations. The show will open on Friday, February 4, at 6 p.m., during Art Walk. The Art Center is located at 2301 First Street in the River District, downtown Fort Myers.
“In Making History” strives to give a face and a voice to the people who have been a positive, driving force in shaping the culture and quality of our region, both today and in the past. Sometimes we don’t consider what it takes to create the museums, schools, hospitals, parks, gardens, foundations, cultural events and organizations which are an essential part of a thriving community. These entities enrich our lives and inspire us to live more than a humdrum existence. They bring new experiences, ideas, nurturing and inspiration, and also act as stewards for our environment, our children, our artists, and our disadvantaged people.
The artists have created portraits and representations of people who have made a difference in the community- leaders who inspire others to act. Together the portraits demonstrate that individuals who live among us are the people who make history, and they encourage us to find a cause and make history in our own way! Participating artists are (pictured): Carl Schwartz, Diana Rutherford, Pat Colins, Kyle Jackson, Tony Ferell, Daniel Calvert, Lil Hatchet, Dave Hatchet, Steve Chase, Krista Johnson, Lauren Baker, Carrell Courtright, Celeste Schwartz, Jeff Scott Lewis, Kellen Back Mills and Aida Bukovica. Not pictured are: Lydia Fogaras, Geoff Hamel, David Hammel, David Meo, Mel Meo, Gerard Damiano, Christar Damiano, Jun and Laury Getford, Ray Hernandez, Jonathan Cane, Chris Catti and Mandalin Paul. Don’t miss this never before seen, true portrait of Lee County and the unsung heroes who built it!
