What is coming in January to Daas Gallery

Posted by admin On December 17th

My good friend Dave wanted you all to know about what was coming to his gallery.

Surface Tension; Abstracts by Portuguese Artist Ric Moreira

The year begins at daas Gallery with the fascinating abstract art of Ric Moreira. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, January 7, 2011 in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk.

Originally from Portugal, Ric and his family migrated to the United States during his younger years. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1990 and started his artistic journey in 1992 after attending the school of the Museum of Fine Arts.  He participated in several collective exhibitions in the Boston area, including the Fort Point Channel art studios. He relocated to Saint Petersburg, Florida in 1999 where he continues to produce art in his private home studio.

“My abstract paintings are the intersection of very deep and personal inner emotions, the materials and medium I’m using, and the environment in which I am working.  I’m in a state of constant dialogue with my work, allowing these emotions and my insecurities to significantly manipulate the development of the paintings.” – explains the artist. “My work often feels like a visual diary of my life.  The paintings are the manifestations of my emotional state at the time of their creation.  So much so, that upon viewing them at a later time I am drawn back to that prior period and its emotional history.  The works are deeply personal and incredibly private.  Yet it is my intent to only provide a catalyst for the viewer emotionally, to glean their own emotional context.”

“In these, my latest works, I am exploring surface tension.  Not only are the visuals meant to partially represent this tension but the application of the materials themselves came about through tension.  Our lives are a constant interplay of tension and our behavior is the outward expression of this.  These paintings are an exploration of tension through abstract shapes and their relationships.” – concludes Moreira.

The daas gallery invites all art lovers and collectors to meet the artist at the opening reception, which starts at 6:00PM. The exhibition will be on display until January 29th, 2011. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. More information is available at www.daasgallery.com.

The beauty and the mystery of the female body will be on display at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center, Fort Myers, FL during the month of January 2011.  The merging of works by both Doug Heslep and Jonathan Kane, two amazing photographers from the SW Florida area, will provide a fascinating and somewhat erotic visual experience for art connoisseurs.

Kane says he photographs the female figure because it is a beautiful form that is both complicated and inspiring.  “I aspire to make images that aren’t too literal or easily interpreted.  I’m trying to communicate more on an emotional level.”  Mr. Kane will be exhibiting work from his “Big Hair” series.

Heslep says his work is more about “capturing a moment and creating an experience.”  “I create what my heart says to create,” says Heslep.  “My images are all about the beauty of a woman, the curve of her body, a stimulating visual that is both erotic and elegant.”  Images from Mr. Heslep’s “The Human Vase” series will be on display along with a many other works from his nude collection.

The Opening reception for the Two Perspectives:  Photographic Impressions of the Female Nude is January 7, 2011, during Art Walk, from 6pm – 10pm at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center, located at 2301 First Street in Fort Myers, FL.  The show will continue through the month of January.  Check online for the center’s schedule!

My Good friend David wanted you all to know about what was happening at Daas.

Send Me On My Way Daas Gallery featuring SOULections by Matthew Davis at Art Walk this Friday

Artist and visual-storyteller, Matthew Davis, brings us his newest masterpieces in a collection called SOULections. His whimsical art has captivating execution and impressive artisan ship. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, December 3, 2010 in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk.

A graduate from SUNY Fredonia, Davis is a master in his craft mixing drawing with painting and other media to create balanced and every day inspired pieces in a very original and unique way. The maturity of his work speaks for itself making a strong statement of his beliefs and views.

“My own expression and fine art stems from an intuitive and improvised manner. I am inspired by everyday experiences, which sometimes seem to be extraordinary. I enjoy the almost magical moment during the creative process when beyond all knowing, something takes over and I go on a ride into the unknown. The results arrived spontaneously. It is the magic and the mystery of the experience that I am attracted to most. The final art pieces are not meant to be representational of specific ideas. Rather it serves as an indicator of the richness of the creative process itself.” – explains the artist. “The underlying intention behind the work that I present is to remember our connection with our true self and our world.”

These selections of artworks are all original acrylic, watercolor and ink on canvas. The ideas and themes come from an ongoing collection of visual journaling. Davis has been working on ways and techniques to express the dynamic sketches into larger scale finished originals. “I hope you can see that I’ve enjoyed the ride, am excited to share and eager to continue on my way.” – concludes Davis.

The daas gallery invites all art lovers and collectors to meet the artist at the opening reception, which starts at 6:00PM. The exhibition will be on display until December 24, 2010.
